Who are the Seattle7s? We are a group of E38 enthusiast who have a passion for our cars and enjoy driving. On occasion we get together to talk cars over a cup of coffee and we usually end up going for a drive together. We also share a lot of e-mails with each other regarding our cars or something fun we have done on a ride or to maintain or improve our E38’s. If you own a 7 series from 1995 to 2001 and would like to share our passion come join us!
Is there a cost associated to join this club? Absolutely not! We occasionally come up with things that do carry a cost, such as logo’ed clothing, business cards and e-mail accounts, but participation is purely optional.
What if I don’t live in the Seattle or greater vicinity? If you live in an area where it is too far for you to travel to join us on our rides (i.e. New York, California, Texas) we’ll welcome you as an Honorary Member.
What happens if I own an E38 and another BMW Series like an E32 for example? Can I bring the other car on a ride? Absolutely! The fact you already own an E38 means you’re in. All other series BMW vehicles you may own are automatically welcomed.
Can I bring my spouse, friends or others along? Sure, any friend of yours is a friend of ours.
How fast do you drive? Will I be able to keep up? We believe in safe and courteous driving. We are out to have a good time, but we want to arrive safely and be able to return home at the end of the day. Ultimately, we are each responsible for our own safety. Do not drive beyond the limits of your car or your ability.
Are there any special requirements for my car? It is always a good idea to arrive at our group meeting with a nearly full tank of gas. You’ll never know when we might decide to head out for a drive or where we might go. If you have one of the commonly available FRS type “walkie talkie” radios, bring it along. They come in handy for communication between cars. Other than that, as long as your car is safe and in good mechanical condition, what more could we ask for?
Are the Seattle 7s associated with the BMW CCA? We started as, and continue to be, a group of independent E38 enthusiasts. We have partnered with the Puget Sound chapter of the BMW Car Club of America by becoming a SIG, which stands for Special Interest Group. This provides a number of benefits; including publicity, insurance coverage, technical assistance and aid in recruitment. Our organization continues to be a separate entity. We are not chartered or sponsored by the BMW CCA. All Seattle 7s decisions are made by the Seattle 7s board and/or membership and are completely independent of the BMW CCA.
As a BMW CCA SIG, do they rule over us and command what we can or can not do? Not at all. Being associated to the BMW CCA and the Puget Sound Region chapter is a benefit to our SIG. The Seattle 7s have NO requirements or rules imposed upon our club as a result of being associated with the Chapter. It is a slam dunk win for us. We get benefits with no costs. If we choose to adopt their processes it's on our own volition they do not impose anything on us. The Seattle 7s is not required to participate in BMW CCA club events. They invite us along, whether CCA members or not, in good faith and friendship. They enjoy having each and every one of us on their events.
Are all our rides/meets or events done strictly through or with BMW CCA Puget Sound Chapter? No, in fact the majority of our get togethers are informal fun gatherings with decisions on where to go or what we want to do sometimes deciding at the last minute. Several times out of the year, based on member input, we may join in on a tour or event hosted/sponsored by the Puget Sound Chapter but it is strictly voluntary and up to each driver if they feel they would like to attend that particular event or tour. Our partnership with the BMW CCA is based on the input of the majority of Seattle 7s members and can be revised or changed as the membership decides.
I don’t have a lot of free time, do I have to make a commitment? Not at all. You can participate as little or as much as you like. The majority of the members have work and family commitments and we know how valuable time can be. While we’d be glad to have you on all of our meets, we know that this may not be possible. Consider stopping by for coffee when we meet up, even when you can’t stay for long. Even if you can’t make it, we’d be glad to have you on our e-mail threads.
I’m looking for a recommendation for a mechanic, parts source, maintenance suggestions or upgrade tips. Can you help? Probably. Chances are that one of the other members has a recommendation or is wondering the same thing. Our members are a great resource. We’ve shared lots of tips on out e-mail threads and we can probably help you too. There is also a good chance that you’ve got input that can help the rest of us.
OK, I’m ready. How can I join? Just provide us with your contact information – mailing address, an e-mail address (work and or home), and a phone number (home and alternative) then the year, model and color of car. We will add you to the mailing list and voila! Your address and phone number will be kept confidential unless you choose to share them. If you’d prefer that your e-mail address not be listed on our web site, just let us know. To start the process, send an e-mail to info@seattle7s.com |
